Sprocket & Reel was founded by Caleb Allison, a passionate archivist and filmmaker based out of Bloomington, IN.
Caleb has taught film production and cinema studies for nearly a decade, specializing in small gauge and experimental filmmaking. He's also worked as a moving image archivist at the IU Libraries Moving Image Archive and is an award-winning independent and experimental filmmaker. He has a deep respect and appreciation for 16mm and its legacy as an amateur, educational, and experimental format.
As a proud Navy veteran and educator, Caleb understands what it means to serve a community and looks forward to sharing analog filmmaking with new audiences. Now over 100 years old, 16mm is still one of the most beautiful and satisfying motion picture formats to shoot with, but functional equipment is hard to come by, expensive to refurbish, or closely guarded by large educational and cultural institutions.
The primary mission of Sprocket & Reel is to help share the joys of celluloid filmmaking with diverse communities and promote 16mm as an accessible format through comprehensive 2-day workshops.
